Der stein sollte vor erster Nutzung geöffnet werden, die ersten 3/100 mm müssen weg. Wenn der Vorschliff mit dem 1k Stein gemacht wurde, ergibt sich hier eine matte Politur der Fase mit leichter spiegelung. Der stein sollte etwa 5-10 sekunden gewässert werden, einige tropfen wasser sind gegbenenfalls nachzuführen.
Beim schleifen zeigt sich sehr schnell ein hoher abrieb, der den Stein rasch zusetzt und eine zwischenzeitliche reinigung erforderlich macht. Hier genügt abspülen unter fließendem Wasser, eventuelleine kleine bürste. Je nach Stahl kann auch der Diamantreinigungsstein erforderlich sein.
Wer sehr geübt ist im Freihandschleifen, kann mitdem 3k Stein eine Microfase setzen, ansonsten sollte man dafür ein geführtes System nehmen.
