A collaboration between two knife nerds with a passion for razor-sharp blades.

Some time ago, I came across Culilux kitchen knives and was immediately impressed by the blades, which founder Michael Gordner has produced to meet his high standards. In return, Michael wrote a wonderfully positive review of my then newly released book on kitchen knives.

After our first successful collaboration last year, it’s now time for Culilux meets Besserbissen 2.0.

Three kitchen knives and two cutting boards make the perfect starter set. And I’m sure that anyone who thought top-quality kitchen knives had to be expensive will be amazed!

Just like in the previous collaboration, the knives and cutting boards impress with premium materials and excellent craftsmanship. Of course, Michael has once again placed great emphasis on achieving the perfect blade finish.

And all of this comes at an almost unbelievable price.

ABOUT CULILUX–BESSERBISSEN

The knife nerds

Torsten Kluske
Kitchen knife guru and Besserbisser

Torsten Kluske, Echo Award winner and former drummer of the pop band VIVID, has made an impressive transition from the spotlight on stage to the kitchen. What began as a passion has evolved into a profession.

As a self-taught chef, Torsten conquered the culinary world by earning the title of German Champion of Amateur Chefs and winning various TV cooking competitions. His passion for cooking, combined with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, led him to found his blog besserbissen.de in 2014, which quickly became a go-to destination for food lovers and hobby chefs. But he didn’t stop there — in his own cooking school, he shared his expertise in over 500 courses, always with the goal of conveying the joy of cooking. On Instagram and YouTube, Torsten inspires with easy-to-follow cooking videos that show how simple it can be to create delicious dishes — with the right techniques and the right tools.

One topic particularly close to Torsten’s heart is kitchen knives. His many years of experience in the kitchen have made him an expert in cutting techniques and knife sharpness. As he knows well, sharp knives are the key to stress-free and safe cooking. In 2023, he published his book about kitchen knives, sharing his knowledge on which knives no kitchen should be without, how and with what to sharpen them, and demonstrating various cutting techniques paired with great recipes.

Michael Gordner
Founder of Culilux and passionate knife expert

Michael Gordner has spent decades gaining experience in international sales and marketing for leading household brands, working with numerous top-tier products and names.

In Japan, he discovered a special fascination for the art of perfect blades. While overseeing the acquisition of a Japanese knife factory, he not only recognized the unparalleled quality of traditional knives but also realized how truly sharp blades can significantly enhance the joy of cooking. This passion led him to strike out on his own in 2021 and establish the Culilux brand.

With Culilux, Michael brings the best of Japanese blade craftsmanship into kitchens around the world – at prices everyone can afford. Each knife is manufactured to his exact specifications and highly valued by experts.

Michael shares his passion and expertise in a unique online knowledge hub. At knifeopedia.com, knife enthusiasts can find everything they’ve ever wanted to know about knives.

Culilux–Besserbissen: Quality and function make the difference

The Culilux-Besserbissen edition from the KYOTO series, featuring ultra-sharp blades crafted from German NC62 NanoCarbide steel, are the perfect choice for both professionals and home chefs. NC62 steel, the German counterpart to Swedish AEB-L steel, is regarded as one of the best materials for kitchen knives. Whether peeling, chopping, or slicing meat, fish, vegetables, or herbs—these versatile knives impress with exceptional sharpness and superior ergonomics.

N62 NANOCARBIDE-STEEL

The NC62 steel, developed for razor blades, offers an extremely fine metal structure and an impressive hardness of HRC 60-62—well above the standard in this price range. Thanks to CRYOMAX ice-hardening at -196°C, the blade is exceptionally corrosion-resistant and durable despite its high carbon content.

LONG LASTING SHARPNESS

The fine-grained microstructure and evenly distributed carbides of NC62 steel, combined with its high hardness, make this steel truly exceptional. This ensures that even at very acute edge angles, the blade retains its sharpness for an extended period—without chipping.

NON-STICK EFFECT

The traditional Tsuchime hammered finish reduces food sticking to the blade. The characteristic impressions are incorporated during the manufacturing process, giving the knife not only a unique appearance but also functional advantages.

ERGONOMIC HANDLE

The Pakka-wood handle is dimensionally stable, durable, and optimally balanced. It fits perfectly in the hand, ensuring fatigue-free cutting—even during extended use.

OPTIMAL HANDLING

All edges of the knife are rounded. Even with intensive use in the pinch grip, no pressure points develop on the hands.

Professionals and gourmets alike appreciate a well-made cutting board. It should not only look great but also sit firmly on the countertop and be sturdy enough for fast rock-chopping. At the same time, it must be gentle on knife blades, helping preserve their sharpness over time. The Culilux-Besserbissen cutting boards meet all these demands: they are eye-catching in any kitchen while delivering the highest level of functionality.

SELF-HEALING

When cutting on end-grain wood, one will cut into the fibres and push them aside

The fibres will spring back after the cut, so that deeper cuts in the board will magically disappear after a while.

GENTLE ON KNIFE BLADES

Since a cut on an end-grain board goes into the fibre and doesn't sever it, the cutting edge is not stressed and the knife runs smoothly on the board with an incredibly pleasant cutting feeling.

HYGIENIC

An end-grain board is not only hygienic due to the anti-bacterial properties of the wood. The self-healing ability of the wood prevents deep furrows where germs could accumulate.

SAFE HANDLING

The cutting boards feature four securely screwed rubber feet that ensure a non-slip grip and safe handling.

SIDE HANDLE GROOVE
